You have to have in count that is of vital importance the following rule:

In this 5th lesson we have to learn to “see” those elements we need to begin to sketch a drawing, it doesn’t matter the motive or the style. See how a professional artist would see it: simple forms, concrete, lines coming from one side to another.

Some short, others longer, some curves, also spheres, cubes and cylinders… pure forms having no specific name at least for the artist. If you observe a nose, you only see and think in a triangle or in a similar form.

The cassette of the last figure is perfectly a squashed rectangle and in a human figure, the arms and the inferior extremities can be article cylinders and connected between them. These lines and pure forms go from one side to another, they curve, they intercross with other shorter lines or more amplified and the illustrator measures permanently and compares distances between one and another element.

This is similar to the job of the sculptor who receives a squared rock with a chisel and a hammer who takes out the peaces and discovers forms, these same pure forms which will be later polished will give life to his work. Cezanne another great painter said sententious: “boys, the trick is reducing the objects in a cube form, the sphere and the cylinder.”

This is the purpose of this lesson to see and practice rigid forms and flexible to apply and polish. If we get used to moving elements like there were heavy or have volume, we will recognize the particular form they adopt according to the pose and specially we will see how those lines react when there around the figure, when there flexible.
